First, kill the CE myth

Tents are not CE-marked products. There is no CE directive for camping tents or rooftop tents — a factory offering you a "CE certified tent" is either confused or decorating. What actually applies in the EU:

• GPSR (General Product Safety Regulation, in force since December 2024) — you, the importer, are responsible for product safety, traceability (manufacturer identity on product or packaging), instructions in the market language, and an EU-based responsible contact.
• REACH — fabrics and coatings must not contain restricted substances above thresholds. You do not need full REACH certification of every batch, but you do need a factory that selects materials with REACH in mind and can back it with test reports.
• EPR (Extended Producer Responsibility) — packaging registration is your obligation as importer in markets like Germany (LUCID) and France, but the factory must supply accurate packaging weights and materials for your registration.

Testing that matters for the EU buyer

European retailers and marketplaces increasingly ask for documentary proof, not promises. The reports that actually answer their questions:

• Flame retardancy — we hold Intertek flame-retardancy test reports for our tent fabrics. Some EU retailers request this by default.
• Halogen content — BV halogen test reports on our fabrics, relevant for buyers with chemical-restricted supply chains.
• Fabric physical tests — hydrostatic head, tear strength and colorfastness reports per fabric batch, available on request.

• Condensation management — Northern European buyers camp in cold, damp conditions. Polycotton or well-vented Oxford with anti-condensation mat options outsells bare 210D by a wide margin.
• Roof-load compliance labeling — EU consumers are meticulous about vehicle dynamic roof load. Provide the tent's exact weight and mounting specs in the manual, in the local language.
• Ladder and safety instructions — GPSR makes you liable for foreseeable misuse. Clear warnings and instructions are not optional decoration.
• Language — manuals and packaging in the destination language. We print multilingual packaging as part of OEM runs.

Logistics from Xiamen to the EU

• Transit — Xiamen port to Rotterdam/Hamburg/Felixstowe is typically 28–38 days port-to-port. Build 8–10 weeks door-to-door into launch plans including production.
• Duty — rooftop tents import under HS 6306.22 (synthetic fibre tents), with an EU duty rate of around 12%. Confirm the current rate and any trade-defence measures with your customs broker before pricing.
