Kids and groups: the ground tent is more practical
A rooftop tent's space is fixed; once the kids grow, it stops being enough. For families, the more comfortable setup is a ground tent as the living room plus kids' room, with adults sleeping up top or on the ground too. Many of our customers end up owning both.

If one trip means four or five different overnight spots, pitching, striking and drying a ground tent eats serious time every day. A rooftop tent flips open for sleep and folds away for driving — an efficiency advantage that is very obvious on long road trips.
Two middle-ground options
- Sleep on the roof, live on the ground. Let the rooftop tent handle sleeping, and add a quick-pitch ground tent or a tarp for daytime activities — the most comfortable combination.
- Side awning. If you only need rain and sun shelter, you may not need a second tent at all — an awning with side walls is less work and packs smaller.
